SADDLE HORSE REPORT VOTES BASQUIAT IN
TOP FIVE IN-HAND
LIVING SIRES!
This noble seven year old stallion joined us in July 2003. We feel humbled to own such a magnificent specimen of an American Saddlebred. As a World Champion with a World Champion yearling filly daughter on his record, we felt that he was the ideal stud for the Sunset Farm Brood Mares.
WC Basquiat earned his title in the two year old in-hand division of the 1998 Kentucky Amateur Futurity. He also won the same division of the Indiana Futurity.
He is the
sire of 2002 Indiana Yearling Futurity Champion and Kentucky Amateur Yearling
Futurity WC Lilly The Filly. Demonstrating
that his get can also prove themselves in
performance, this exciting filly was Reserve Junior Five-gaited Mare at
Lexington Junior League in 2005. Basquiat has also
sired 2004 Third Place Kentucky Amateur Weanling Futurity filly
Basquietta. In 2006, Weanling
Lily
Tu placed 10th in the highly competitive
All American Cup and was 6th in the Kentucky Amateur Weanling
Futurity.
By Canadian Ambassador, also the sire of stakes winner Canadian Storm,
Precisionist, A Rose From Canada, etc.,
Basquiat is a full brother to Near And Dear,
fourth in the 2000 Amateur Weanling division of the Kentucky Futurity. He is a
half brother to WC C & L's Twenty-Twenty, and to show horses Harvey
Pike and Heirregular. His dam is a half
sister to stakes winners Catfeesh, Anchor
Ridge, Joe Perry Mad Max, etc. His second dam is three-gaited stakes
winner Here Kitty, half sister to WC CH City Kitty, WC Hocus
Pocus, WC Spartan's Sultan, RWC Fat Cat, and producers
Featherbed and Louder Please. His third dam, Enchanted Hour,
is a Hall of Fame Broodmare.
To live with Basquiat is to know him, and we are impressed with his gentle but powerful presence. Our original plan to breed Basquiat to our Sunset Farm broodmares has now changed. Doing natural cover only, we bred him in 2004 to fifteen mares belonging to friends. 2006 was also a busy year for us. So due to the demand, in 2007 we plan to expand our Basquiat breeding program by offering fresh cooled transported semen.
Basquiat is large-boned and stands 17 hands. He passes on his good sense and agreeable disposition with necks that come straight up out of his strong shoulders.
